What's Your Hang-up?
Heyas,
I've been wanting to take part in one of Michelle Ward's Street Team Crusades for a while.. its probably been two years since I last took part! Anyways, this month she encourages us to be displaying our art in our homes. I am pretty good at this with free standing pieces like books, decorated/altered items and sculpture type pieces but must admit I don't technically have anything under GLASS. I think this is a great idea and something I would like to do.

Wall art

In the meantime I will share one wall item. This is a mixed media piece that its main structure is made from a old tapestry I found at a second hand store. I always love to pick up stitched pieces. I guess as a stitcher myself I know the hours involved and the care taken so to see it discarded I like to give it a new home. Often re-birthed some way as part of a new art piece, stitched into a book or as part of a background.

Panel detail

This is attached to my bedroom wall with a purple fabric piece to set it off from the non-descript background wallpaper. Five panels with different themes and texture combination. Using fabrics, handmade papers, meshes, stamped images.

Embellishments include beads, plastic bug, pods, feathers and a rosary (something I love to collect).

It was some time ago since I made this but I do recall I enjoyed mixing the materials and treating each panel as a mini artwork.

Thanks Michelle for encouraging us to share artwork on display around our home. Everyone's art is so inspiring! Followers of my blog who are unfamiliar with the Crusades, click on the above link - Michelle has a list in her sidebar of participants... be sure to set aside a couple of hours though to look and enjoy :)

Kathleen - thanks for playing along with us this month. Love seeing the piece you have hanging up. Very cool piece - like hearing how you breathed new life into it and made it your own. Thanks for sharing your work, and for reminding us that dimensional art on display definitely counts for this crusade.

What a good idea! I have old stitched pieces that I have done and now seem so dated and no longer go with my colour scheme. There are a couple of old pillow top samplers that I just might be able to use. Thank you for sharing. Each part of the panel is so interesting.
